Occupied West Bank

All Zionist Israelis want is more dead Palestinians– The debate is: how many to kill

Anything goes. Palestinian lives are worthless. Palestinian lives don’t count. Those who kill them are soldiers who learn that this is their main task during their military service. That’s why they were conscripted. Now it is their turn to kill Palestinians. In three years, they will be replaced by others. This is the Israeli melting pot. They all kill Palestinians.

IDF soldiers operating in the West Bank are implementing a policy of killing Palestinians. This is the policy of the great majority of the Israeli public, of Prime Minister Lapid and his predecessor [Naftali] Bennett, of Defence Minister Benny Gantz and of Chief of Staff Aviv Kochavi and his senior commanders. There’s a national consensus on this. Even among supporters of the two states solution.

And that’s why, about 100 Palestinians have been killed in the [Occupied] Territories since the beginning of the year. 2022 is already the year with the most Palestinian deaths in the last seven years. Some of the Palestinians killed in recent months were unarmed. Some of them were children and teenagers. To reach high numbers it is impossible to be too picky. Anything goes. Under the “Government of Change” there has indeed been a change and the finger on the trigger has been lighter in the face of Palestinians throwing stones and Molotov cocktails. Their lives are worthless. Palestinian lives don’t count. Those who kill them are soldiers who learn that this is their main task during their military service. That’s why they were conscripted. Now it is their turn to kill Palestinians. In three years, they will be replaced by others. This is the Israeli melting pot. They all kill Palestinians.

And yet, Brigadier General (Res) Zvika Fogel, soon to be a Religious Zionism MK, believes that the number of Palestinian deaths since the beginning of the year is far too low. He’s a right to hold this view. This is [in Israel] a legitimate debate between the government and the opposition. An argument between friends. Fogel is anguished that Palestinian lives still count too much. As far as he’s concerned Gantz has emasculated the IDF’s soldiers. This is the term he used: castrated. They are cowards. They hardly kill Arabs, in his opinion. This is an internal debate, between Jews. Fogel claims that the soldiers should “put a bullet to the head” of any Palestinian who throws a stone or an incendiary device towards them. Or expel the culprit.

On the other hand, a Jew who throws a stone at an IDF soldier only needs to be [lightly] punished. They should be “educated”. Someone to the right of Fogel could stand up and ask: Why give the option of deportation? Just a bullet to the head. Again, this is a legitimate debate within the Jewish Armoured Personnel Carrier, to use the Hebrew expression. A bullet to the head for a Palestinian, education for a Jew. The rest of the world would call this distinction Apartheid. In Israel it is called deterrence. Soldiers who act like this are murderers. In Israel they are called heroes. People who support such policies are fascists and racists. In Israel they are called the Centre-Right and Zionist left. The only argument between Lapid and Fogel is about numbers. Lapid brought about 100 items since the beginning of the year. Vogel wants, say, 500. Vogel says to his head. Gantz prefers aiming at the chest. Sounds like a basis for negotiation. It is possible to compromise on 250 in their Adam’s apple and form a coalition.
