American support for Israel falls to ten-year low, Gallup finds

Gallup found Democrat’s support for Israel fell 6 percentage points compared to 2018’s poll, while support among those who identified as Republican dropped by 13 percentage points

Gallup’s annual World Affairs survey, published Wednesday, finds that American support for Israel in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has dropped to 59 percent, the lowest figure in a decade.

Support for the Palestinian side has risen to 21 percent — a historic high.

The results are based on a survey conducted each February. Gallup notes, “the 2019 poll was conducted Feb. 1–10 prior to Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar’s recent remarks,” which have sparked debate over U.S. support for Israel.

The poll found support for Israel dropped 5 percentage points from last year, hitting its lowest mark since 2009.

Support for Israel among Democrats polled fell 6 percentage points compared to 2018’s poll, while support among those who identified as Republican dropped by 13 percentage points. The views of political independents are unchanged.

Democratic support siding from 49% to 43% approaches the lowest level of Democratic partiality toward Israel since 2005, added Gallup. Republican support for Israel in the conflict hit an all-time high of 87% in 2018 and dropped to 76% today.
