If you read about the circumstances of Osama bin Laden’s death on Wikipedia in English, you will learn that he was killed. That is, he did not die a natural death. American commandos killed him. They didn’t assassinate him. Lee Harvey Oswald assassinated Kennedy. In English, an assassination is the murder of a senior political leader, an action whose motives are sometimes political. The same is true in Hebrew. Yigal Amir assassinated Rabin. And murder is the illegal killing of a person, usually on purpose. Therefore, it would be correct to say that the head of the crime family Benny Shlomo was murdered. And you can also say that he was assassinated. The head of a crime family, as Don Corleone explained to his son-heir Michael, is like a senator. like a president He sends people to kill and die in his name. The killers of Benny Shlomo are professional assassins. They specialise in murder that is secretly planned and carried out suddenly, for money. It’s a job. But in all the news broadcasts on Israeli television, they insist and make sure to devoutly say that Shlomo was “liquidated”. You won’t hear that word on English news channels. Even today, CNN says that bin Laden’s successor, al-Zawahiri, was killed. Simple as that. The US killed him.

But in Israel you hear more and more the term “liquidation” with all its connotations. It started with the second intifada.

The government and the IDF then coined a new, sterile and clean term, “targeted assassination”, especially to describe the assassination of terrorists. The planned terrorist activity was thwarted when its perpetrators were killed. But the lust for blood and revenge demanded a much more violent and powerful term, which completely dehumanises the thwarted terrorists. And so, the preventative assassination gradually turned into liquidations. Even before that, Abu Jihad was “liquidated” (in 1988) and so was Yahya Ayash (in 1996).

Since then, Israeli society has fallen in love with liquidations. It is its favourite death. Now every Palestinian boy in the Kasbah is “liquidated.” That is, there is no trace left of him. And every criminal murder is actually an liquidation. They are liquidating all the time here. This is unique to Israel. It’s a conjugation: We liquidated, you’ve been liquidated, they were liquidated. Liquidation is the cruellest and most Israeli way to die. Only human beings are murdered. And only human beings are assassinated. But liquidation It is not only total destruction, annihilation. It also applies to other animals, not only to humans. Cockroaches are liquidated. Plant parasites are liquidated. A wart can be liquidated. Or a moisture problem. The liquidation lowers the one being liquidated to the level of existence of beings that do not think and do not feel, And they don’t have any moral rights, at all. They are unnecessary and harmful, period. Not human beings.
