It’s (not) complicated

While it may not be pleasant to be an Israeli today on many US campuses, the main victims of hate crimes since the beginning of the war have been neither Jews nor Israelis, but Palestinians

Let’s assume for a moment that last night a group of masked people attacked a pro-Israel demonstration on a US university grounds. The group hurled firecrackers at the demonstration, vandalised the demonstrators’ property, threw heavy objects at them and initiates physical confrontations with them. It is said that for three hours the protesters were at the mercy of these thugs without the university or city police intervening.

Most likely: The President of the State of Israel would issue a notice to US Jews to come and find refuge in Israel.

The Haaretz newspaper would publish detailed testimonies of frightened students + two opinion pieces on the danger of antisemitism.

The “It’s Complicated” crowd would finally get what it wanted, and celebrate their opportunity to mock the progressive woke ideology that denies the danger of antisemitism, spreading videos and photos from the event everywhere.

But since those attacked were members of the anti-Israel protest encampment, we read reports of “clashes” and “riots.” The headline in Ynet even celebrated the crime: “Clashes between pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian at the University of California: ‘Want to hinder Jews? Let’s see.’”

It should be noted that while it may not be pleasant to be an Israeli today on many US campuses, the main victims of hate crimes in the United States since the beginning of the war have been neither Jews nor Israelis, but Palestinians. The only students hit by the gunfire have been Palestinian students. The only demonstration that has been violently attacked in an organised manner by masked people was a pro-Palestinian demonstration.
