Jerusalem’s Palestinians placed under night curfew by Israel
Israel has invoked an emergency act from the pre-1948 British Mandate-era of Palestine, to impose night curfew on the east Jerusalem Palestinian youths for periods ranging from two to four months.
JERUSALEM, Jan 04, 2020 (WAFA) — Israeli police today handed eight young Palestinian residents of the occupied East Jerusalem neighborhood of Issawiya summons to appear before an Israeli court tomorrow for allegedly violating night curfew, according to one of the summoned youths.
Anwar Obeid told WAFA that police and security services raided his family home early today and handed him a summons to appear before the Jerusalem District Court tomorrow. He said seven other young residents of his neighbourhood were also summoned by the police for the same reason.
The eight were earlier placed under night curfew for allegedly throwing rocks at police in their neighbourhood.
Israel has invoked an emergency act from the pre-1948 British Mandate-era to impose night curfew on the Issawiya youths for periods ranging from two to four months.
The youths were detained last week for confronting the Israeli forces who raid their neighbourhood and then released the next day to be placed under curfew during the night.
Obeid said police raided their homes during the night to see if they had broken the curfew.
The neighbourhood residents participated on Thursday evening in a protest activity against imposing night curfew on their sons.
Over the last several months, Issawiya’s 20,000 Palestinian residents have been subjected to daily harassment and brutality from the Israeli police, who regularly raided their neighbourhood, mainly at night and early morning, harassed students going to their schools, and would fire teargas canisters at homes at odd hours of the day causing several health problems, mainly to the elderly and youngsters.
